My Photography Journal—Week One

the Quiet Beauty of morning and evening light.

Hello dear friend,

This week begins a new journey—a Photo Journal Project that invites me (and perhaps you too) to notice more closely the quiet beauty found in the everyday.

Each week, I’ll be choosing a theme to gently guide me, to capture small glimpses of life through light, stillness, and simplicity.

This creative practice was inspired by my dear friend Kim Klassen, whose gentle guidance and soulful approach to photography continue to encourage and inspire me.

Kim’s Photo Journal Project is a beautiful invitation to gather your everyday moments and create a visual story. I’m so grateful to be participating in another of Kim’s lovely courses.

For this first week, I chose Morning and Evening Light.

There is something sacred about the way light spills into a room in the early hours—soft, golden, full of promise. And just as meaningful are the shadows of evening, stretched long and deep, wrapping the day in stillness and calm.

Through each photograph, I tried to pause and honor those fleeting moments:

– A metal pitcher holding dried peony blooms, gently lit by the early rays of morning.

– The sheer curtain in my studio catching the morning sun and the frost beyond the window.

– The shadows cast by a simple branch arrangement, dancing across the wall.

– My sweet Maggie resting at the window, watching the day unfold and patiently awaiting her morning walk.

– And the quiet, end-of-day glow across a vanity in our home.

Each image holds a story—a whisper really—reminding me to slow down, to notice, and to receive the light, whenever and however it comes.

I’m looking forward to continuing this practice in the weeks ahead, and I hope you’ll follow along.

Perhaps it will stir something in you too—an invitation to see the quiet moments of your own days with fresh eyes.

with love,

Loralie
