Supplies:
Flour Sack Towels
Acrylic Paint- Yellow, Orange, Red, Green
Textile Medium (to make paint washable and maintain fabric softness)
Stiff Paint Brush
Palette (a margarine lid or wax paper works well)
Fruit- Apple, Lemon, Lime, Orange
Cutting Board
Sharp Paring Knife
Paper Towel
Small Container of Water (to rinse your brush)
How To:
Pre-wash and dry your towels: Wash and dry your flour sack towels and take them out of the dryer promptly to avoid the need for ironing.
Set up your workspace: Lay a protective sheet of plastic over your work surface to catch any mess.
Prepare your fruit:
Citrus (Lemon, Lime, Orange): Cut the fruit in half through its thickest part. Use the tip of your paring knife to carefully make slits within each segment, keeping the membrane intact. Gently remove most of the flesh using the knife, leaving enough to create a defined stamp shape. Place the fruit cut-side down on a paper towel to absorb excess juice.
Apple: Select an apple with an intact stem. Slice it in half, ensuring one half retains the stem for added charm. Use the stemmed half as your stamp.
Mix your paint: On your palette, mix the acrylic paint with the textile medium according to the medium's instructions.
Prepare your towel: Spread a clean tea towel flat on your protected work surface.
Apply paint: Use a stiff paintbrush to pick up the paint mixture and evenly apply it to the surface of the fruit.
Stamp the towel: Press the painted fruit firmly onto the towel, creating your desired design. For best results, practice stamping on a piece of paper towel or scrap fabric before working on your tea towel.
Dry: Hang your towel to dry completely before handling further.
Extra Notes:
Reapply paint to your fruit after each stamp for consistent coverage.
If your brush gets too messy, simply rinse it in the water and blot it dry with a paper towel before continuing.
Enjoy creating! ♡
