Supplies:
Soy wax flakes
5’’ cotton wicks
4 oz glass jars (small mason jars or any other glass jar works beautifully)
High-quality essential oils
4-cup glass measuring cup
Medium pan filled with water (at least 4” deep and wide enough to hold the measuring cup)
Wooden clothespins
Optional embellishments – personalized labels, ribbon, or twine to add a charming touch
How to:
1. Prepare Your Jars and Wicks: Place a wick in each jar, securing it with a clothespin. Rest the clothespin across the mouth of the jar to keep the wick centered and upright.
2. Measure and Melt the Wax: Pour 1 cup of soy wax flakes per 4 oz jar into the glass measuring cup. Fill your pan with enough water to create a warm bath and place over medium-low heat (it doesn’t need to boil). Set the measuring cup with wax flakes into the pan, allowing the wax to melt slowly.
3. Cool the Wax Slightly: Once the wax is fully melted, remove the measuring cup from the pan and let it cool for about 10 minutes. This helps maintain the integrity of the essential oils when added.
4. Add Essential Oils: Stir 50 drops of essential oil into the melted wax. For a cozy autumn fragrance, try an equal blend of cinnamon and orange (25 drops each), or adjust to your preference.
5. Pour and Set: Carefully pour the scented wax into the prepared jar, keeping the wick centered. Allow the candle to cool and solidify for 24 hours.
6. Trim and Embellish: Once fully set, trim the wick to 1/4” before lighting. Add a personal touch with a ribbon, label, or twine to complete your homemade candle.
Enjoy the cozy ambiance these seasonal scents bring to your home!
Extra Notes:
Feel free to try your favourite scent or combination of scents, there are so many possibilities.
This recipe made one candle but you can melt more wax to create a larger batch if you wish.
